An extensive survey of the condition of the effluent in Israel found that as a result of the improvement of the purification process, 87% of Israel's wastewater can be used for irrigation. Spain, ranked second, is using 20% of the wastewater.

Half of the wastewater is purified in a more advanced way and can now be used for unrestricted irrigation (suitable for any type of crop). The new survey summarizes the data from 2014 and includes data from 99% of the waste water of the Israeli population. According to the survey the quantity of effluents used for agricultural annually is 419 million cubic meters. It provides nearly a third of the water consumed in agriculture and a fifth of total water consumption.
