My Birth Place

I was born in Akko (Akka, Acre, Saint Jean d’Acre...). This city is more than 5000 years old. It has experienced all civilisations that came to Israel. I will start to post blogs about different focal points in this wonderful city.

The first is AlJazar Mosque build by the ruler of the same name during the Ottoman period (1781). It is considered as a very holy place for Islam because it is believed to house the Sha'r an-Nabi, a hair (or lock of hair) from the beard of the Prophet Muhammad.

The building is typical for Ottoman style with Minaret and a Sabil (water basin for ritual wash). It was built over a former Crusaders’ church.
